Sharing the Experience: “simply… sing it!” excerpts from a personal diary:
“I was born and raised in Sudbury ON, and to this day, carry fond memories of my first choir experience by beginning to sing at the age of 14 joining the 40 voice Ukrainian Folk Choir- Dnipro under the direction of Ollia Rohatyn. This initial choir experience permitted me to travel to Brazil and Argentina , throughout the U.S. and Canada – think of it…a community based - northern mining town choir – that had a world class centre stage feel to it…all at the age of 14. What a wonderful adventure that was. I later joined our local Ukrainian Catholic church choir and joyfully embraced the richness of Eastern Rite liturgical a cappella form. What a wonderful way to learn how to listen. Subsequently, a year later upon joining, I was asked to take the church choir lead at age 16”…
I enjoy sharing these beginning highlights of my choral career. I truly hope to inspire more of our youth, and not so young to get involved in music programs; whether it’s through choral or instrumental, jazz or baroque, we can always use more musical talent in all our daily lives.
