Choir History
Counterpoint Chorale
In September 2001 a small group of singers gathered to develop the art of a cappella Eastern European music, French and other traditional choral song.
Today, Counterpoint Chorale is a 40 member ensemble of vocalists gathered from all over the greater Toronto area. The group provides a three-program season of varied classical choral music each year, including a robust Christmas program in December in concert with the Counterpoint String Players, a second program highlighting a major choral work in exchange with a regional chamber choir, and a season finale performance in June. The choir also is committed to vocal training and holds periodic workshops with world-renowned opera singers.
Throughout the early years of progress Counterpoint Chorale has performed with special acclaim under its founder and conductor, William Woloschuk. Counterpoint continues to delight audiences with selections resonating from Renaissance to Contemporary, singing in a wide variety of foreign languages.
Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 6:45 pm to 9:00 pm. Counterpoint rehearses in the Downtown / University of Toronto ridor in St. Vlad's Institute situated at 620 Spadina at Harbord, just south of Bloor St. and north of College St. (Spadina Subway Station). Parking is available on the premises.
